Wisdom is complaint. That’s the theme for today. It may seem a little odd. Afterall, isn’t it better to not complain? Don’t we tell those who do complain to look for silver linings, or count their blessings?

The Book of Job is an epic complaint. Job has suffered more than anyone ever should. And he talks a lot about it. The only time he stops talking is when his friends speak up and tell him to quit complaining. “Your suffering is God’s will.” “You get what you deserve.” “Suffering is part of God’s plan.”

Job’s friends don’t help.

I wonder how you have suffered.

I wonder if someone has told you to bear your burdens without complaining.

It’s an unwise thing to keep your thoughts and feelings inside. Wisdom is letting it out. Wisdom is the ability to articulate your life according to your own experiences. God wants us to complain. I wonder what your complaint is. Sickness? Poverty? Famine? War? Abuse?

Let’s tell our story, and the story of the world. Let’s bring our complaints to God.
