This Sunday we begin our reflection on Wisdom which will take through the fall.
My favourite definition of wisdom comes from Matthew’s gospel which is paraphrased in our Sunday reading from the Letter of James.
Jesus said, “Everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise person who builds their house on a rock” (Matthew 7:24). In James we read, “be doers of the word, not merely hearers” (1:22). Wisdom is putting God’s teaching into action; transferring God’s words from our lips to our hands.
I wonder how we do this.
I wonder what words of God are stuck on our lips.
I wonder how our actions betray what we truly believe.
